Anna Hazare's In Jantar mantar Delhi News 8/4/2011 Today

New Delhi: Anna Hazare called for his supporters to court arrest in a Jail bharo andolan on April 12 and 13 after the government on Friday talked tough on his demand for an effective Lokpal Bill.

The government said that it could not accede to the demands of chairmanship of the joint drafting committee being given to a civil society member and for issuing an official notification.

A meeting of HRD minister Kapil Sibal with activists Swami Agnivesh and Arvind Kejriwal scheduled this morning did not take place with both sides saying they were waiting for each other. The meeting is now scheduled at 6pm.

Sibal said only government officials will be members of the joint drafting committee on Lokpal Bill and that no minister will be part of it.

"There is no possibility of an official notification on the constitution of the joint committee but we have told them that we are willing to give an official letter through the law ministry and a press note," he said.

Sibal said he was waiting along with his ministerial colleague Salman Khurshid for Gandhian Hazare's supporters -Arvind Kejriwal and Swami Agnivesh - this morning but as they did not turn up, he called them on phone.

When Agnivesh asked him about the position of the government on the notification issue, Sibal said, "I told him our position remains the same.

"It is not possible for the government to issue a notification with respect to constitution of a joint committee. However, we are willing to issue an official letter through a department of the government, may be the law ministry and, of course, through a press note," he said.

Sibal said it was not possible for the government to accept that the chairman of the joint committee should be a member from the civil society.

"All other conditions and all other points are acceptable to us," the minister said. "If you insist that a nominee of your side is a chairman of the joint committee, in that event the constitution of the committee will not consist of ministers from our end but it will consist of officials of government of India in which eventuality you can have your nominee as chairman of the joint committee,"

Indian Express: Around 50 citizens are on a relay fast in Pune and a jail bharo andolan has been planned on April 12 in the city to support Anna Hazare’s agitation in Delhi for the Lok Pal bill. Afew social organisations chipped in by holding agitations, though not with ‘India Against Corruption’ (IAC) in front of the PMC headquarters, but in their own areas on Thursday.

“Citizens have offered to fast. Their names have been registered so that they can be called to participate in the relay fast,” said K D Pawar of Bhrashtachar Virodhi Janandolan, coordinating the agitation in the city.

Sushant Pol, a third-year engineering student of Marathwada Mitra Mandal College of Engineering (MMCOE) observed a 12-hour fast on Thursday. He was part of the IAC signature campaign in Pune earlier in the week. “The relay fast is a way of supporting Anna from Pune. Although I was not at the pandal opposite PMC, I observed fast during the day,” he said. Around 1,000 students from the University of Pune (UoP), extended support through a fresh signature campaign.
College students to retired employees and members of women’s self-help groups extended support. A few women would fast on Friday. Many organsisations are extending support through letters to IAC. A public rally is planned on Saturday evening followed by candlelight rally from PMC to Shaniwarwada.

According to B B Somani, IAC Pune coordinator, they have decided to go on a 24-hour fast on Friday opposite PMC building. Meanwhile, 307 lawyers associated with ‘Centre for paralegal services and legal aid’ are supporting Hazare’s strike. A sit-in was organsied by Jan-Adalat and Pune Vakil Kruti Samiti outside gate no 4 on Saturday, said Advocate Sagar Newase, president, Jan-Adalat.

Dilip Autade of Bhrashtachar Nirmulan Sangharsh Samiti said a silent rally will be held in Hadapsar on Friday. “We have written to Hazare. It is neccessary to take up the agitation at a local level and hence, we will hold rally at Hadapsar instead of coming all the way to Shivajinagar,” he said adding a few groups are outside Collector office supporting Hazare’s stir. K D Pawar, Mohan Kate, Mohan Pawar, Dagdu Patil, Shankar Tadake, Trupti Desai, Ramesh Sharma, S B Repale, Kailash Mankar and Mangesh Patil, were among those who fasted on Thursday.
